Chipotle Sneaks In Special Codes During the NBA Finals for Free Burritos

Restaurant Dive reported Chipotle has been running a series of ads during the NBA Finals with special codes where fans get free goodies. 

The giveaway, whose first leg came as a surprise to viewers Tuesday, will grow in scale as the match-up between the Bucks and Suns progresses. A second ad appearing during Game 2 on July 8 will give away another 10,000 burritos, while a Game 3 ad on July 11 will dole out 20,000 and Game 4’s spot will offer 30,000. Chipotle claims it could end up dishing out more than $1 million in free entrées over the course of the campaign, depending on how the series shapes up. You can read more here.

Restaurants Offering Higher Wages for Employees

Restaurant owners are enticing employees across the country to return to their pre-pandemic jobs by offering higher wages according to a CNBC story.

Eating and drinking places added more than half a million jobs from March through June, according to the Department of Labor. But the unemployment rate for the industry remains elevated, hitting 10% in June, up from 9% the previous month. And warmer weather typically ushers in higher demand for restaurant meals anyway, putting more pressure on employers to add to their workforce. You can read more here

Restaurant Startup Secures Big Round of Funding

Acelerate, a startup software company, has secured a $14.4 million round of funding, which will be used to grow the company’s team and products, according to TechCrunch.

Acelerate licenses its seven proprietary restaurant brands, including recipes and training guides, to existing restaurants that want to diversify their online offerings. Acelerate also works with existing restaurants to license their menus to other restaurant partners, and has partnered with third-party brands like Curry Up Now to make them available for its restaurant partners.
